FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

EDMONTON, AB – Matt Jeneroux, the Member of Parliament for Edmonton Riverbend, released the following statement about the passage of Bill C-7: An Act to amend the Criminal Code (Medical Assistance in Dying) in the House of Commons:

“Last night, Parliamentarians voted to pass significant changes to Canada’s Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) laws. Changes include allowing access to MAiD to those suffering from mental illnesses and for people to make advanced requests for assisted death.

“I voted against these changes and have consistently voted against amendments to open up MAiD for more access. I fear that vulnerable Canadians will be the most impacted by these changes.

“Bill C-7 is now with the Senate for more debate and the Supreme Court will determine whether the bill is constitutional.”
