Many Canadians are shocked at what is being called an “industry secret” that was recently exposed by the Canadian Union of Public Employees—flight attendants are not being paid when they are doing their pre-flight safety checks, or assisting passengers with boarding, or helping passengers when their plane is delayed at the gate after a long journey.

Our office has received many emails expressing unpleasant surprise and asking for this practice to be put to an end. I’ll take all the feedback to Ottawa and strongly advise the current government to work actively to protect the rights and interests of our flight attendants.
