STATEMENT: The reopening of Canada’s borders a sign of hope in the pandemic

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

EDMONTON, AB – Matt Jeneroux, the Member of Parliament for Edmonton Riverbend, released the following statement:

“Today, the federal government announced they will be waiving the mandatory 14-day quarantine and the hotel quarantine currently in place for air travellers for those who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. This is a positive step that signals a return to normalcy.

“For months, we’ve been calling on the government to set out a roadmap with benchmarks that Canada would have to meet to allow a border reopening. While the government never did so, today’s announcement, with more information to follow, is welcomed.

“Canadians have all had to make great sacrifices during the pandemic. Families and long-term couples have been separated by the border closures. Our lives have been turned upside-down to protect against this virus. I’m so pleased to see our vaccination rates are climbing every day, which allows us to start travelling again without having to quarantine for two weeks or pay exorbitant fees for a hotel stay.”
