FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

EDMONTON, AB – Matt Jeneroux, the Member of Parliament for Edmonton Riverbend, released the following statement:

“I’m once again incredibly sad and disappointed to hear about another hate-motivated attack in our community, this time against two Muslim women in St. Albert.

“These types of hate-motivated attacks are unfortunately happening more and more in our community. These are acts of unthinkable hatred and demonstrate that Islamophobia does exist.

“No Muslim woman should have to live with the fear of being attacked and should proudly wear the garment that identifies her belief. This should not be happening in a country like Canada that is based on multiculturalism. Canada has traditionally been a free country that is safe for people of all walks of life and all religions.

“We must continue to work together as a society on acceptance, compassion and kindness. I condemn these cowardly attacks.”
