Statement on Bill C-233

June 2, 2021
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

EDMONTON, AB – Matt Jeneroux, Member of Parliament for Edmonton Riverbend, released the following statement:

“I will vote against the Private Member’s Bill C-233, the sex-selective abortion bill, in the House of Commons today. The Conservative Party considers the issue of abortion to be closed according to our party constitution, and although there are elements that are important in this bill, I believe the necessary forum for this conversation continues to be at the convention.

“In addition, Private Member’s Bills are notoriously hard to get passed in the House of Commons, and face a tough road at committee meetings and in the Senate. We know this bill does not have the support of the other parties in the House of Commons and will ultimately be defeated.”
