STATEMENT: MP Matt Jeneroux reflects on one-year anniversary of downing of flight PS752

EDMONTON – Matt Jeneroux, the Member of Parliament for Edmonton Riverbend, today released the following statement on the one-year anniversary of the downing of Flight PS752 in Iran:

“Tomorrow marks one year since the downing of UIA Flight PS752. Dozens of innocent lives were lost, including 55 Canadian citizens and 30 permanent residents. Many of these victims resided in Edmonton.

“The loss of these residents of our community is still being felt, especially at the University of Alberta, where many were students. Our city continues to grieve this tragedy.

“Those responsible for this attack must be held to account. Canada’s Official Opposition have called for Magnitsky sanctions to be imposed on those responsible in the Iranian regime if they failed to cooperate with the investigation. The evidence provided by the government is that Iran has failed to do so.

“We believe that Magnitsky sanctions must be used against those responsible for this atrocity and the IRGC must finally be listed as a terrorist organization. There must be justice for the victims and their families.”
