STATEMENT: MP Jeneroux to donate mandated pay increase

March 15, 2021
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

EDMONTON, AB – Matt Jeneroux, the Member of Parliament for Edmonton Riverbend, released the following statement on the mandated pay increase all Members of Parliament will receive on April 1:

“I will once again be donating this annual pay increase of $3,200 to local charities within Edmonton that have been working incredibly hard to help those who need it most. These charities have been doing great work under exceptional circumstances.

“It’s been an incredibly tough year for so many people in our community and across the country. Now is not the right time for me to accept a pay raise. The salary is automatically adjusted annually and there is no opportunity for Members to proactively refuse the raise.

“Last year, I also took the proactive step to donate the mandated pay raise of $3,750 to charities that are working to help Canadians impacted by COVID-19. We still have much work to do to get our economy back on track and Canadians still need help. These charities provide great services to our community.”
