STATEMENT: MP Jeneroux to Donate Mandated Pay Increase

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

EDMONTON, AB – Matt Jeneroux, Member of Parliament for Edmonton Riverbend, released the following statement on the mandated pay increase all Members of Parliament will receive on April 1:

“Once again, this year I will be donating this annual pay increase to local charities within Edmonton that have been working tirelessly to help those who need it most. Many of these charities have been doing incredible work under exceptional circumstances.

“It’s been another tough year for so many people in our community and across the country due to the raging inflation and cost-of-living crisis. Now is not the right time for any Member of Parliament to accept this annual pay raise. The salary is automatically adjusted annually and there is no opportunity for Members to proactively refuse or vote against the raise.

“Since I’ve been elected, I have taken the proactive step to donating the mandated pay raise to charities in Edmonton. We still have a lot of work to do to get our economy back on track and Canadians desperately need help.”
