STATEMENT: MP Jeneroux donating pay increase to charities supporting Canadians impacted by COVID-19

April 1, 2020
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

EDMONTON – Member of Parliament Matt Jeneroux, the Shadow Minister for Health, issued the following statement on the mandatory pay raise all Members of Parliament are scheduled to receive on April 1:

“I will be donating my pay increase to local charities within Edmonton that are working extremely hard to support Canadians impacted by COVID-19. I’ve been hearing daily heartbreaking stories from people in our own community who are impacted by this pandemic – whether it’s through the virus itself, lost jobs and wages or forced closure of their businesses.

“As Shadow Minister of Health, I’ve been working alongside the government to ensure we’re doing all we can to protect Canadians from this virus. I’ve continually pushed the government to implement stricter border measures, ensure we have enough supplies on hand and continuing to stand up for our front line workers during this difficult time.

“All Canadians are impacted by COVID-19 and I want to ensure I’m doing everything I can to help our community, which is why I’m donating this mandatory pay increase.”
