STATEMENT: Motion to invite Canadian WHO advisor to House of Commons committee passes

April 15, 2020

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

EDMONTON, AB – Matt Jeneroux, Shadow Minister for Health and the Member of Parliament for Edmonton Riverbend, issues the following statement about a motion passed at the House of Commons Health Committee to invite Dr. Bruce Aylward from the World Health Organization (WHO) to appear before the committee:

“Today, I moved a motion to invite Dr. Bruce Aylward to testify before the Health Committee. The motion passed and Dr. Aylward will be asked to appear and testify by May 1.

“Dr. Aylward was scheduled to appear before the Health Committee on April 14, but he abruptly cancelled at the last minute and did not offer to reschedule. We are in the midst of a pandemic that has so far infected more than 15,000 Canadians. The government has followed most of the WHO’s guidelines at a detriment to its citizens, since the WHO has back-tracked on almost every position it has taken.

“Canadians have many questions about the handling of the virus. As a Canadian representative for the WHO, Dr. Aylward owes an explanation to his fellow citizens. I look forward to the opportunity to question him at the House of Commons Health Committee.”
