STATEMENT: In Recognition of the National Day For Truth & Reconciliation

EDMONTON, AB – Today, Matt Jeneroux, the Member of Parliament for Edmonton Riverbend, released the following statement on the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation:

“The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a day that allows our country to observe & reflect on our history, the pain that has been caused and how to continue working to fix those injustices.

“We recognize that at least 150,000 Indigenous children across Canada were wrongfully taken away from their families and were stripped of their cultures, traditions, and languages. The residential schools had caused the horrific death of thousands Indigenous children.

“There is still a lot of work that needs to be done to rectify these mistakes, so today, let’s stand with the survivors of the residential schools to make sure this never happens again.”
