Free trade meetings should have been a priority for Trudeau: Jeneroux

July 9, 2020
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

EDMONTON, AB – Matt Jeneroux, Member of Parliament for Edmonton Riverbend and Shadow Minister for Health, issues the following statement about Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s decision to skip recent free trade meetings in the United States:

“The signing of the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) marks a significant milestone for Canadian workers in many industries, including farmers and automotive workers. The decision by Prime Minister Trudeau to not attend celebrations for the signing of this renegotiated agreement is incredibly disappointing.

“Canadians expect their government to stand up on behalf of workers and their families. Trudeau’s behaviour signals that Canadian workers aren’t a priority for him or his government. The hundreds of thousands of Canadians who are impacted by this trade agreement expect better from their government, and so do I.”
