OTTAWA, ON – Matt Jeneroux, Member of Parliament for Edmonton Riverbend, released the following statement on the 2022 Fall Economic Statement:

“Yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Chrystia Freeland released her government’s Fall Economic Statement. The Fall Economic Statement is a fiscal update of the Country that allows the government to update the country on their fiscal performance and future economic plans.

“It’s unfortunate that this government continues to not take our economy and struggles of families more seriously. They are continuing their reckless spending and tripling their carbon tax on Canadians.

“This statement does not address the real issues Canadians and our economy are facing and does nothing to prevent or lessen the downturn ahead. Whether it is a lack of savings, increase of taxes, or not enough to secure our supply chains this government is clearly out of touch.

“Going into this economic statement our party called on the government to do two things which was to freeze all tax hikes and find a $1 of saving for every new $1 spent by the government. It’s a shame that this government did not even consider them and will now make an already tough time even tougher.”
