Standing Up for Edmonton Workers: New Support for Tariff-Impacted Industries

Today, I had the honour of joining the Honourable Eleanor Olszewski, Minister of Emergency Management and Community Resilience, and provincial counterparts at Apollo-Clad Laser Cladding to announce a vital new investment for Alberta’s workforce.

Through the Workforce Tariff Response, the federal government is delivering targeted funding to help Edmontonians—and all Albertans—navigate the challenges posed by global trade shifts and tariffs. This initiative is about more than just numbers; it’s about providing a bridge to the future for the hardworking people in our manufacturing, energy, and steel sectors.

What this means for our community:

Retraining & Upskilling: New grants and programs will help workers transition into high-growth, in-demand roles right here in Edmonton.
Protecting Livelihoods: By supporting businesses in our industrial supply chains, the government is helping to stabilize the local economy against external trade pressures.
Seizing New Opportunities: This funding ensures our local workforce remains the most competitive and resilient in the world.

As I’ve shared with many of you in Riverbend, we are living through a moment of unprecedented global pressure on our prosperity. We cannot afford to sit on the sidelines. Today’s announcement is a concrete step in the government’s commitment to stand up for the workers and families who are the backbone of our province.
