EDMONTON, AB – Edmonton Riverbend Member of Parliament Matt Jeneroux has been named as a member of the House of Commons’ Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development.

“I’m thrilled to be named to this committee at such a pivotal time in our country’s history,” said Jeneroux, who was first elected to Parliament in 2015.

“There are many important discussions that need to be had and I will be standing up for Alberta’s oil and gas sector in these meetings.”

House of Commons committees meet while Parliament is sitting and are tasked with undertaking studies and consulting with witnesses and stakeholders. After consultations are undertaken, the committees present reports in the House of Commons, which can become the basis for federal legislation.

“Being on the environment committee is an opportunity to ensure that all regions of Canada are represented as we think about how best to move forward on issues of the environment and climate change,” said Jeneroux.

Since being elected to Parliament, Jeneroux has served on the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics, the Standing Committee on Public Accounts and the Standing Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. He has also served as vice-chair for both the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology and the Standing Committee on Health.
