MP Matt Jeneroux Awarded 2024 CAMIMH Champions of Mental Health Award

Ottawa, ON — August 22, 2024 — We are honored to announce that MP Matt Jeneroux has been awarded the 2024 CAMIMH Champions of Mental Health Award in the Parliamentarian category. This award, presented by the Canadian Alliance on Mental Illness and Mental Health (CAMIMH), recognizes individuals who have made significant strides in advancing mental health initiatives across Canada.

As the Founder of the Hi Dad Foundation, MP Jeneroux has dedicated his efforts to raising awareness about men’s mental health and reducing stigma. The annual “Father’s Day on the Hill” event, now in its eighth year, has been a crucial platform for discussing men’s mental health and fostering open dialogue.

In May 2024, MP Jeneroux hosted the inaugural Mental Health Summit in Ottawa. This summit gathered representatives from all political parties, experts, advocates, and leaders to discuss and shape the future of mental health policy in Canada. It was a significant step toward a more comprehensive and inclusive mental health strategy.

MP Jeneroux’s Parliamentary work also includes tabling Motion 116 in March 2024 to improve access to online mental health services on Government of Canada websites, aiming to make mental health resources more accessible to all Canadians. Additionally, during the 43rd Canadian Parliament, MP Jeneroux’s private member’s bill, An Act to amend the Canada Labour Code (bereavement leave) (Bill C-220), was adopted with unanimous support, extending bereavement leave and supporting employees on compassionate care leave.

Receiving the CAMIMH Champions of Mental Health Award is a profound honor. MP Jeneroux is grateful to CAMIMH for this recognition and for acknowledging the efforts of those dedicated to improving mental health in Canada. “This award reflects not only my work but the collective efforts of many who strive to create a more supportive and inclusive environment for mental health,” MP Jeneroux says.
