We are excited to announce the establishment of the Canada-ASEAN Parliamentary Friendship Group, dedicated to fostering robust connections between Canada and the member nations of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). 

Over the past few months, Senator Gignac and I have collaborated to co-found this parliamentary friendship group in hopes of advancing dialogue, collaboration, and understanding between Canadian Parliamentarians in Ottawa and their counterparts in ASEAN countries. As Co-Chair, our goal is to fortify diplomatic relations and enhance cooperation on key mutual interests through the exchange of ideas, knowledge sharing, and cultural engagement.

This partnership is of great significance for Canada, especially considering that in 2022, trade between Canada and ASEAN countries exceeded $40 billion. The ASEAN nations collectively represent one of the world’s most dynamic economic regions and play pivotal roles in global affairs. 

By strengthening our engagement with ASEAN, Canada aims to expand trade opportunities, address shared challenges, and contribute to peace and prosperity in the Pacific region.
