New Federal Funding for Community Infrastructure: Call for Applications

The federal government has launched the Build Communities Strong Fund – Local Impact Stream this summer, providing up to $1 billion for small, shovel-ready community infrastructure projects.

Eligible local governments and non-profit organizations can apply for funding to build or improve community spaces such as recreation facilities, parks, cultural centres, and other public amenities. This includes new construction or improvements, including expansion, renovation, retrofit, or the replacement of existing assets, for projects up to $1 million.

Applications for the first intake are open until July 17, 2026, and projects must be ready to begin in the 2026–27 fiscal year.

A subsequent intake would be implemented later in the 2026-27 fiscal year, and additional intakes will take place in future fiscal years as well.

Eligible applicants—Incorporated not-for-profit organizations, or local governments and their related organizations—can find more information on how to submit their project application at https://www.canada.ca/en/prairies-economic-development/services/funding/build-communities-strong-fund.html.
